Rindu Alam Restaurant (Restoran Rindu Alam, Jalan Raya Puncak) is located at Puncak (peak or summit in Indonesian), which is literally that, the highest point (the pass), roughly half way (60 miles) between Jakarta and Bandung on the mountainous road across the extinct volcano Gunung Gede (Big Mountain), past the well known Taman Safari (Safari Park) at Cisarua. Thus, it is quite far from Bogor (the address indicated on TripAdvisor), being nearer to Pacet and Cipanas. This route is different from the more recent, faster and better motorway to the North that links Jakarta and Bandung. Rindu Alam straddles the edge of the pass with a sweeping and dramatic view across the terraced fields and tea gardens that are located on the slopes. The restaurant is designed such that there is a view from most of the tables, but the ones on the deck at the edge are the best. On a clear day the view is truly amazing, and worth the trip on its own.

Rindu Alam is a typical Sundanese (West Java) eating house that serves only local cuisine- unpretentious but delicious. However, the menu is diverse, not very spicy as cooked (spiced according to taste using appropriate sauces placed on table), should suit any palate and comes with English translation. Even for people completely ignorant about Indonesian food, it should not be difficult to pick from items like fried or barbequed choice of fish (ikan goreng, ikan bakar), fried or barbequed chicken (ayam goreng, ayam bakar), sates, squid, freshly fried chips, various omelettes and vegetable preparations, etc. There are a number of soup and noodle options also. An item worth a try is sayur asem, a typical sweet/sour soup prepared using a tamarind base and containing pieces of corn, bread fruit and other vegetables and a combination of indigenous herbs and nuts. Considering the ambience, the food goes down well with the cold, cold Bintang beer (local) that they serve, and even after numerous visits to this place we are still happy to brave the (sometimes bad traffic) to drop in again when the opportunity arises.
